What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

Family! I grew up in my parents salon in Baltimore, MD and my wife Allyson is one the best beauty business operators in the country if not the World. We wanted something for our daughter to see, learn, and be proud of and we wanted something unique and special for the Brooklyn community.

Recent events have created a renewed awareness of structural inequalities faced by people of color in America, in everything from our criminal justice system to accessing opportunities as an entrepreneur. Can you recommend any materials (books, documentaries, social media accounts, etc) that seek to educate on these experiences and/or propose a better path forward in regards to race relations in America?

Yes! the Bible, Koran, or whatever higher power text you choose to prescribe to. Mostly on all social media or documentaries you will hear opinion. To know people, you have to go meet, speak with, and learn people. Read and know your rights as a US Citizen outlined in the US Constitution as well as local state laws. I’m currently reading Barack Obama’s book: The Promised Land
