Highlighting NFBID Woman-Owned Businesses: BYKlyn Cycle and Fitness

We are thrilled to be highlighting some of our incredible North Flatbush Avenue woman-owned businesses, in honor of Women’s History month! Check out our conversation with Amy Glosser of BYKlyn Cycle and Fitness.

How long have you been a business owner, and how long have you owned a business on North Flatbush Avenue?

7 years to both!!

Do you currently own other businesses outside of the North Flatbush Avenue BID?

Yes! The BYKlyn Yard, at 421 Dean Street.

What makes you a “Small Business Wonder Woman”? Tell us a little about your business and what makes it unique

We are a community studio surrounded by franchise and big chain gyms. It’s it’s emphasis and commitment to COMMUNITY that is our secret sause. We are Brooklyn– a little gritty, wildly diverse and authentic. No pressure to wear fancy clothes here or pretension, just Brooklynites bringing their best selves.

What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

It’s in my blood–all 6 members of my family are entreprenurs including my 87 year old mother who still runs a great business. And, with 3 kids I wanted the flexibilty that comes from running my own business.

Who are some female leaders who have inspired you in your journey as a female entrepreneur?

As I mentioned, my mom! She started her business at age 62 and has had her best year ever at age 87! I also really admire Sadie Kurzban–owner and founder of 305 Fitness. She’s strong, bold, aggressivly body-positive and so young!

What is your other favorite woman-owned business In Brooklyn?

So many great women owners in Brooklyn: Zuzu’s Petals, Annie’s General Store, Canviviam to name a few.

What is your other favorite North Flatbush Avenue business?

I love Brooklyn Crepe. Evan the owner is very commited to our neighborhood and their crew makes them best smoothies!

What makes North Flatbush Avenue a good place to have a business?

I Love being a NF business. Our area is chaging and growing. And, we are very well looked after by our BID!
