New Lights at 8th Avenue
Our 8th Avenue Triangle Park just got a little brighter.

New Type B pole lights at the 8th Avenue Triangle
During the 1970’s when the Triangle Parks were first built, Brooklyn Union Gas “Cinderella Project” offered free gas lights to anyone who switches from electric to gas. You can see these gas lights in front of the many brownstones in our district. Overtime, the glass lantern turned costly as they broke easily from the underground subway and during the cold winter months. Soon they went dim and years later the gas lines were turned off.
With capital funding from Borough President Marty Markowitz, and as part of our Capital Streetscape Project, new electric Type B pole lights will be installed in at the 6th, 7th and Carlton Avenue Triangles as well as the 8th Avenue by the Department of Transportation.
The Type B pole lights are similar to the lights you see in many of our city parks including Prospect Park. They just made our neighborhood that much more safer and brighter.
As part of our Capital Streetscape Project, we will be expanding Triangle, adding new benches, planters, chairs and tables and will hosting several series of activities in this public plaza. We are looking forward to our new facelift on Flatbush Avenue.
